GREEN IT
Green IT (green information technology) is the practice of environmentally sustainable computing. Green IT practices include reducing the use of hazardous materials, maximizing energy efficiency during the product's lifetime and promoting the biodegradability of unused and outdated products.

No client-side software is used. Data center energy efficiency can be improved by utilizing combined heat and power systems. Heat recovered from electricity generation in the form of steam or hot water can be used by an on-site chiller to cool the data center.

Purchase thin-client computers using a web browser and/or a remote desktop virtualization software. Thin-client computers use up to about half the energy of a standard desktop loaded with its own dedicated applications. The applications can instead be accessed on demand from a remote server from any location via the cloud.
Implement virtualization and cloud computing systems. The number of internal servers used can be reduced and application management can be outsourced to a cloud.
